Print media includes newspapers, magazines, newsletters and journals.

The types of stories that appear in print vary from "hard news" to feature stories. Hard-news stories are timely in nature, covering topics such as politics, crime and natural disasters. Reporters covering hard-news topics seek to-the-point interviews with "expert" sources who can offer commentary and insight on the topic.

Feature stories, on the other hand, are considered "soft news" and are less newsworthy. They encompass the arts, entertainment and human interest stories; feature reporters want in-depth interviews from "real" people with a unique story to share.

Print media have long lead-times, meaning the time between when a topic is pitched or an interview is conducted and when the story is actually published is longer than any other form of media" typically at least a couple of months. For this reason, print outlets are pitched at the very beginning of the campaign, even before the book's publication date.

Print interviews are often harder to secure than other types of interviews, because available article space is always subject to the day's headlines, the needs of the publication's advertisers and the decisions of the managing editors. In other words, there are no guarantees that the story will run. However, securing a print interview is an excellent way to build credibility, because the length of the interview and the amount of information that can be conveyed is much greater than with the other forms of media.
