The ISBN, or International Standard Book Number, is a ten- or thirteen-digit number that identifies your book. It is specific to the publisher and the edition of the book. It is composed of four parts: the group or country identifier, the publisher identifier, the title identifier and the check digit. This essential book publishing service allows your book to have a unique identity in any country in the world.

The EAN, or European Article Number, bar code is a rendering of the ISBN that may be read or scanned by machines. Bookstores use the bar code to accurately track their inventory. In the case of a price-embedded bar code, the price of the book is also encrypted in the bar code.

Obtaining a copyright is a crucial book publishing service. The copyright ensures that no one but you may reproduce your work, produce a derivative work, distribute copies of it, perform it publicly or display it publicly. We always register the copyright in the author’s name to protect his or her intellectual property.

The LCCN, or Library of Congress Control Number, appears on the copyright page of most books. It essentially gets the title information into the library system, so that acquisition librarians can more easily order the book. Some librarians will not accept books without this number as it helps them by setting up a record for each book.

One of our book publishing services available only for our Synergy Books imprint is the P-CIP, which stands for Publishers Cataloging In Publication. This program provides industry standard cataloging details for each book prepared by a trained cataloger. The P-CIP lists the various subject categories that apply to the book based on detailed information sent by the publisher. Librarians use this information to update their databases and add to their catalog records. The P-CIP includes the ISBN, Library of Congress subject terms, Library of Congress authorized name terms, Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification numbers, and a formatted description of the book.
