Each printing project comes with its own unique issues—timeline, audience, budget, etc.—yet the printing process itself remains relatively constant, managed in-house by our Print Services Coordinator. The principal variable, in most cases, is time.
- Even before the page count has been finalized, the print department prepares your book's rough specifications. Print specifications translate your book's unique design into a technical language printers can follow.
- Bids are sent to the printers best fit for your project, who send pricing quotes in return
- The printer with the best price is awarded the job and awaits the final files.
- The design department puts the finishing touches on your manuscript and cover designs and sends final files to the print department who sends them to the selected printer for the project.
- The printer reviews the final files and begins a process known as the printing preflight. Proofs, usually unbound samples of the product that allow color and formatting review, are sent to BookPros' print and design departments for scrutiny.
- Upon proof approval, the printer begins the printing and binding process for the entire order. If proofs are not approved, any errors are remedied and new proofs are sent to the print and design departments. This process continues until the printer has met every detail of your book's specifications.
Printed books are shipped to their final destination. Depending on the project and whether digital or offset printing technologies are utilized, the timeline for the entire process ranges from a few weeks to three to four months.
