Before a finished book rolls off the press, the BookPros publicity team begins to prepare for the upcoming media campaign. This often includes the mailing of pre-publication review copies to major book reviewers and trade publications.
BLADs
In the case of full-color books, BookPros' design department develops what is called a BLAD (Basic Layout and Design), which includes the cover art and sample interior pages (typically the first chapter). BLADs provide all relevant industry information for the book: publisher, distributor, ISBN, publication date, etc. They are an excellent way to jumpstart a media campaign and can be expertly produced through BookPros' design and print departments.
Galleys
Sometimes confused with BLADs, galleys serve a similar purpose. A galley is an advance-review copy released before a book's publication date. Although galleys do not necessarily reflect a book's final edit or design, they convey the book's message to the media and are intended to generate anticipation for the book's release. BookPros' print services team works seamlessly with the publicity services, design and publishing teams to coordinate the release and distribution of professionally printed galleys in time to supplement the book's publicity campaign and to generate book reviews.
