It is the typesetter's responsibility to ensure that the overall design of the book is appropriate for the genre and contributes to the book's readability.
Seemingly small details, such as deciding whether to use serif or non-serif fonts or making sure the spacing between lines of text is aesthetically pleasing, will have a large impact on the finished book and must be carefully planned to reflect the book's tone, genre and purpose.
