Since March is National Craft Month we decided to kick off our March posts with a celebration of the many wonderful book-related crafts we have found. Some artists out there choose to use books as their material while others create book-like objects from other materials. Here are our picks for craft month:

My husband and I were actually married in a library last summer, so we did a number of book- and library-themed craft projects for the big day, including save-the-date cards which were made to look like card catalog cards; invitations made from book pockets and due date cards; salt and pepper shakers covered in book pages; bookplate place cards (printed onto sticky paper so that guests could take them home and stick them in their own books) (pictured above); and pin-back buttons made from book pages stamped with a heart (pictured below).
Here are a few other fun book-related crafts:
Book-themed wrapping
A book wreath, along with vases made from books
Book pages as wallpaper

Here’s my fave: the Bookish Birdhouses from ShelfTalker. I made one of these as a birthday present (below). I took the pages from a fairly gruesome German book that teaches children important lessons. For example, if you suck your thumb, a tailor will cut it off with a giant pair of scissors.

After finding this book wreath (below) by Living with Lindsay through Twitter, I fell in love. It’s so simple yet beautiful. I’m definitely making one. (It would be fun with colorful magazine pages too.)
I also love mini book necklaces. Especially those with real pages a la these Etsy finds.

My sister used to make purses out of book covers. A lot of people do this with hardback books with thick spines. But she would also use paperback romances with hilarious covers, and slip them inside of clear plastic totes and decorate them.
Also, here’s a slide show of crafts using words, letters, or books. The most bookish one is pictured below. Those paper vases are pretty cool. So is the silhouette actually.

A Struwwelpeter birdhouse! (I get my knowledge of German culture from Dwight Schrute.)
My college roommate had a copy of Struwwelpeter! Best* book of fairy tales ever. Made my 6 years of German classes totally worth it.

These are all really neat – thanks for sharing!
